What We Do

  • Host an annual national conferences, registered for continuous professional development. Past conference speakers include Penelope Leach, Margot Sunderland, Steven Biddulph, Felicity de Zulueta, Jill Kirby, George Hosking, Camila Batmanghelidjh.   • Publish a twice yearly What About The Children? NEWs – essential reading about the emotional needs of under 3’s for parents, policy makers and professionals. This is provided free to members, annual subscription £10.
  • Make submissions to Parliamentary and other national consultations.
  • Publish Research Summaries of recent and relevant research (click Advice and Information for list of summaries and articles)
  • Have representation on Early Childhood Forum, the Alliance for Childhood, National Council for Women and two All Party Parliamentary Groups concerned with children.
  • Work in partnership and collaborate with organisations concerned with children and families from the state and voluntary sector.

Our Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is an external advisory body of the charity reviewing the latest research. Members of the SAB have no responsibility for the running of the charity or its policies.


Developments in 2009

  • 2009 saw the launch of a series of “Goodman lectures” in honour of Doreen Goodman our founder.
  • The inaugural lecture, “Children at Peace with Themselves” was given by Dr M. Suzanne Zeedyk, Senior Lecturer, School of Psychology, Dundee University at Emmanuel College, Cambridge in May. (click Conferences and Events for summary)
  • Planning is underway for the 2011 Goodman lecture.
